Work for Sale at New Created in Birmingham Shop

The ever industrious Chris Unitt and team will be throwing open the doors of the new Created in Birmingham shop on Thursday 25th February at 5pm. The shop's located between Faith and Miss Selfridge in the Upper Level of the Debenhams side of the Bullring in Birmingham, so nip down for the grand opening which goes on until 8pm.

Now, for the shameless self promotion: I'll have some work on sale in the shop!

To celebrate the opening of the Created in Birmingham shop, with some amount of blood, sweat and tears (literally, at times!) I've created a number of Special Edition hand-finished prints which will be available to purchase from visit the Bullring's newest addition. These prints will only be available to buy from the shop itself. Here they are ready to be packed up and whizzed over tomorrow morning:

As an additional curve-ball, I'm releasing a time-limited A4 version of Purewater. A3 limited edition prints have been available through my external printers for a wee while. The A4 versions will only be produced for the duration of time that the shop exists, which could be anything from 6 weeks to 6 months, after which they will not be released again. Grab your chance to pick up one of these if it tickles your fancy!

There will be a wide range of local creative talent represented in the store, and it's the only shop of its kind in the Bullring, if not the whole of Birmingham city centre. Don't miss your chance to catch some really fantastic work as well as some of the events that Mr Unitt and the team will be hosting over the coming weeks.

Update: CC will also be on sale:

Night Service

3am in a downtown hotel. Lights dimmed. She sits alone. Or does she? Is she waiting for someone? Are they already there? Is she waiting for a telephone call? Is she waiting for her money? Or does she have an attack of the munchies and is waiting for room service to bring her a cheese toastie? You decide ;)

Night Service, 2010.

This was a little experiment I did last night and finished this afternoon, working the drawing up in coloured pencil and graphite and then finishing digitally to enhance warm tones. I don't usually add an environment for figures when I draw them, but wanted the added context and to have a bash at trying to replicate gold. I like the slightly seedy, retro Bond-esque result it's produced. Finished printed size is A5.

So Long, Summer

'So Long, Summer' is the last of a series of three drawings depicting the same sun-seeking character. As it's forecast to snow here again imminently, what better subject to choose? :)

I've been feeling quite reflective about the past year, on the things that have gone well and the things that I could've done better.  Consequently, I've been rethinking how I'm selling my work and how I can cut down costs to make it much more affordable. I'm thinking smaller self-published art prints and other formats, and selling through Etsy and/or Folksy, as publishing small pieces through a third party printer sets overheads comparatively high before I can even think about a mark up and tax being added on top of it all. It's a learning curve, and it's worth trying things out and weighing them up if it helps you to move forward in the longer term.

The first releases for 2010 will be the Summer Series. I'm just gearing up to be ready for production and then I'll be letting them loose!

By the way, if you're out and about in Birmingham, keep an eye out for the Mischief Bunnies, a rather sweet little project involving wandering plasticine rabbits by Chris Phillips.

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year.
